Organization
Our full formal title is Sampford Peverell Recreation Ground and Village Hall Charity, and its constitution was most recently set in 1979. Its aims, also stated rather formally, are “to provide, for the inhabitants of the Parish and its neighbourhood, facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation, in the interests of social welfare, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the residents”. The Hall and sports ground are in the trusteeship of Sampford Peverell Parish Council, which works with a committee of Trustees for the Hall. Normal running of the Hall is delegated to a committee consisting of up to seven people elected annually at a general meeting, plus a representative from each of the village societies and groups.

History of the Village Hall
The founder's plaque
The building of the village hall was the idea of members of the local branch of The Royal British Legion to commemorate those who gave their lives or their youth to fight for their country in the Great War of 1914-1918. Building started in March 1933 and it was in use by the end of that year although work and fund-raising continued for a while longer. Today the hall acts as a centre for village activities and a venue for many other events.
